Fire Training

The Training Division is under the direction of the Assistant Chief of Training. This division plans and directs all of the training efforts of the department, including needs assessment, curriculum development, scheduling, and records management.  The Training Division is responsible for managing the wide range of training-related documents, reports, and records necessary for maintaining required certifications for the department's emergency response personnel. Staff members regularly monitor the activities of the PIAL and LDH to stay abreast of mandated changes in training and certification requirements.

In-Service Training

The Training staff coordinates the annual continuing education classes mandated by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL) and the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH). Firefighters attend fire-related and emergency medical classes throughout the year at various Fire Department locations. Courses on supervisory development, new products or apparatus, or other specialized training are conducted on an as-needed basis.

    Scheduled Monthly Training

Industrial / Specialty Training

The Training Division also provides safety training classes designed specifically for other City departments, government entities, or local businesses. The department conducts a Citizens Fire Academy annually. A group of selected citizens attend Tuesday evening classes for eight weeks to get an up-close and personal look at their Fire Department and how it operates. Academy participants are given many opportunities to take part in hands-on activities to provide them with a real "feel for the job".

Fire Science Degree Program

In cooperation with Louisiana State University @ Eunice the Pineville Fire Department is able to offer an on-site Associate Degree Program.  Starting in the spring of 2002 night classes will be offered at the PFD Fire Training Center.  These classes are all college level classes with college credit being offered to those wishing to complete their degrees.
